How to be a better distance runner?

Okay so since around mid-October I recently joined track, and I've been running with the sprinters three times a week, doing 250m, 200m, Hill workouts, and weight training. I wasn't sure what event I was going to do and my brother told me I run like a distance runner, which I resent because I wanted to be a sprinter, so now I want to know how I can be a good distance runner, because I've only been working on sprints now. Do I need to build endurance ? If so, how ?
