I bought a dell comp .i have dial up phoneb an modem trouble?

i bought a dellgx60 celeron 2ghz 512 mb 420 gb nic cd xp,not i downloaded the software ,but,when i try to log on i get no modem, or turn on modem ????and wen i hook up phone in the comp and i try to log on i get no, sounds ,from the comp or the phone,,,,,,,,it keeps saying phone do not detect phone hook up and its says makesure the phones enabled to except dsl i don't no what the he,ll to do, help,pleaseeeeee,,,,,ty
