Recently disabled person (moi) about to attempt coloring own hair... Good or bad idea?

This might not be what you wanted to hear, but with your disabilty, a shorter haircut might be easier to keep up with. You sound very independent, but timing is very important, and if you don't have anyone to help you, getting it cut first might be helpful, and much cheaper.
